He was welcomed into eternal rest by his parents, Otto Frank Weiler Jr. and Rueita Doane Weiler, and his brother, Robert Doane Weiler. He is survived by his beloved family: his forever love of over 38 years, Patricia Sullivan Weiler; his sons, Christopher Weiler and his wife, Kerrianne, of Franklin, MA; and David Weiler and his wife, Brianne, of Colchester, CT; his three cherished grandchildren, Eleonora, Avery, and Francesca; and sisters, Carol Weiler Clark of Deep River, CT, and Kathy Weiler Mauri of Cambridge, NY; along with many nieces and nephews.
Richard was born January 22, 1953, in Hartford, Connecticut. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. After completing his military service, he began a career in law enforcement as a police officer and volunteer fireman before later transitioning into the environmental field. Outside of his professional life, Rick was deeply committed to serving his community. He volunteered for many years in Scouting, beginning as a Cub Scout leader and eventually advancing to work with Boy Scout Troops. Throughout that time, he mentored and guided numerous young men, including his two sons, on their journey to earning the prestigious Eagle Scout rank; an achievement attained by only a small percentage of Scouts. In addition to his involvement in Scouting, Rick was an active member of his children's school booster club and a dedicated supporter of the football program, proudly cheering on both of his sons when they were captains of their high school football team. Once his working days were behind him, he and his wife made the journey to start their new retired life in New Bern, NC, their own little slice of paradise.
Rick was, first and foremost, a family man. His beloved wife was his partner in all things, and together they built a meaningful and fulfilling life side by side. His two sons meant the world to him and were his greatest pride and joy. Everything he did reflected his commitment to his family. A laid-back soul with a sharp mind and an easy sense of humor, Rick found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time with his family, being out on his boat, cooking and fishing, singing to his favorite songs from the 1950s and 1960s, quiet mornings, walking his dogs, and a good cup of coffee. He was incredibly handy, always willing to fix what was broken or lend a helping hand. Known for his intelligence and quick jokes, Rick had a way of making those around him feel at ease. He was steady, dependable, and deeply devoted to the people he loved.
Rick's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived, remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him.
