Born in Ames, Iowa, Ron went on to serve his country with honor after college by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He rose to the rank of Captain and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and dedication. Following his military service, he pursued a legal career, earning his law degree from California Western School of Law.
Ron built a distinguished career as a construction, oil, and gas attorney, working with various corporations across multiple states. He was also an accomplished author, writing two legal books that were published and used as teaching materials in law schools.
He was an active member of both the Craven County Bar Association and the American Legion. In 2010, as part of New Bern’s 300th anniversary celebration, Ron contributed his talents by writing the script for the reenactment of the historic legal case Bayard v. Singleton.
In 1993, Ron met the love of his life, Cindy, in Dallas, Texas. They were married three years later and soon relocated to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where they lived for nine years before retiring. In 2007, they moved to Jones County, North Carolina, where they built their dream home and settled in the New Bern area.
Ron and Cindy shared a deep love for animals. Over the years, they opened their home to six cats and thirty dogs—many of them senior rescues—giving them care, comfort, and a loving place to call home.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Cindy Jones, and their beloved pets: Allie-Cat, Ezekiel, Noah, Lilly Beth, and Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L. Meyer and Maribeth Jones; his sister, Char Rausch; and his brother, Larry Jones.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in the chapel of Cotten Funeral Home. The service will take place on what would have been Ron’s 84th birthday—a fitting time to honor and remember his life. A reception of food and fellowship will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Colonial Capital Humane Society in Ron’s honor.
