Ryan was born on October 20,1992 to Timothy and Jill Tietz originally from Rotterdam New York. Ryan was a graduate of Schalmont High School class of 2011. Most people that knew Ryan knew about his love for needing to be on a bike. Ryan raced BMX from an early age at Tri-city BMX. His father Timothy Tietz was a medic volunteer during the Friday night races while his mother Jill Tietz and sister Holly (Tietz) Letchworth cheered him on from the bleachers. Racing soon became a family outing, as Ryan grew and left BMX he dived right into the MX world. Ryan worked as a tile layer for Absolute Tile for several years and in his free time he would always be practicing for his next Friday night race. MX and bike racing was a lifestyle for him. Ryan raced at Royal Mountain where he won 1st place several times.
He had all of the support from his family and best friends Matt Palleschi, Tom Reutzel and Eric Bink. During the winter season you’d find him riding his snowmobile all over upstate New York and no matter where Ryan went he always seemed to make friends.
Ryan had many hobbies and it was no surprise during a week night to see him fishing at Mariaville Lake. He ultimately loved trout fishing up in the Adirondacks' near Sacandaga Lake. He also enjoyed building stuff and always had something to tinker with in his shop. He loved spending time with family at family gatherings. He truly was such a kindred soul. His friends were like family to him and whenever they needed him, he was always there.
Ryan moved to North Carolina in 2020 to be closer to his family. He was excited to be reunited with his best friend/sister Holly, they shared many laughs, lots of sarcasm, and old childhood memories. Holly was equally excited to have her brother here. Ryan always enjoyed bonfires in the evenings with his parents Jill and Tim and accompanying his dad Tim on a couple of deer hunts. His passion for riding motocross followed him down to North Carolina and he was more than motivated to teach his nephews Gauge and Landon the fun, thrill and camaraderie of motocross. His nephew Gauge soon idolized his Uncle Ry’s talent and wanted to follow in his footsteps. Landon on the other hand liked 4 wheels better, but still loved to be at the track. Anyone that knew Ryan knew he loved his nephews deeply. Ryan was eager to learn the trade of plumbing while working for his brother in law Trey Letchworth (owner of Letchworth and Son’s plumbing). For the past 3 years Ryan worked as a plumber and gas fitter where he excelled in his daily tasks and duties. The bond that Ryan and Trey developed was one of a kind.
Ryan will be deeply missed by his loving parents Timothy and Jill Tietz of New Bern, NC, sister Holly (Tietz) Letchworth, brother in law Trey Letchworth, nephews Gauge and Landon Letchworth all of New Bern, NC, his close friend Tara Paul McNeil of Grifton, NC, and many friends, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and extended family.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on January 20, 2024 at Latitude church, 1732 Race Track Road, New Bern, NC 28562. A reception will follow the celebration at Copper Ridge on the Neuse, 2706 Old Cherry Point Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
