Sharon Lee Johnson

Sharon was born on April 6, 1935 in Sydney, New York. She was the eldest of two children born to her parents, Victoria and Ralph Mason. As a child, Sharon spent much of her time at her grandmother’s farm in upstate New York, tending to her very own dairy cow. This is where Sharon came to love both animals and farm life.

Sharon and her first husband, Peter Knight, were high school sweethearts. They later married after both attending college and had three children together. Pete was a Lt. Colonel in the Marines, and this only further proved Sharon’s strength, as the family moved often while raising their three mischievous boys.

Sharon enjoyed a number of hobbies including horseback riding, cooking, and sewing. Sharon was an avid animal lover, surrounded by her many pets including horses, cats, dogs, and chickens on her farms. Sharon and her husband Ray moved from their farm in New Hampshire to Trenton, NC in the early 2000’s, where they continued to enjoy bluegrass festivals as well as riding in their horse drawn carriages.

Sharon was an active member in her community, remembered by all as a warm and kind woman who never failed to make you feel loved and cared for. She enjoyed helping others in many capacities. She was a nurse for many years, most recently as a volunteer at the Merci Clinic, an educator in diabetes, and served as a mentor for countless other nurses. Sharon could be found every Saturday volunteering at her church’s food pantry, and also spent time at the Pollocksville Senior Center.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and late husbands, Pete, Dom, and Ray.

Sharon is survived by her three sons Eric (Dawn), Timothy (Kris), and Christopher Knight (Trish); sister, Kathy Crandall (Carl); grandchildren, Victoria, Montana, Isabella, Gabriella, Walker, and Olivia Knight; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Trenton Missionary Baptist Church in Trenton. The family invites all to join them for a reception at Sharon's home in Trenton following the service. The address is 287 La Wane Lane, Trenton, NC 28585.
