With a heart full of love and a spirit that embraced adventure, Susan F. Cytron, known to all as Sue, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Born, raised, and educated in St. Louis, Missouri, Sue lived a life of nearly 60+ years with her husband, Marvin, in a partnership that began with a magical blind date at their high school prom. That evening sparked a lifetime of love, devotion, and unshakable friendship.
Sue’s life was a true journey—both literally and figuratively. As a devoted Air Force and corporate wife, she embraced numerous relocations gracefully and optimistically, turning homes from Utah to Alaska, St. Louis to Delaware, into warm havens for her family. Whether taking her children and grandchildren on secret adventures or encouraging them to color outside the lines, Sue was the fun and adventurous mom and nana everyone adored. Her zest for life spilt over into her relationships, making her a dear friend to all who knew her.
Sue and Marvin were not only life partners but also cherished instructors at the UD Lifelong Academy of Learning. They shared their knowledge and passions with their students and were deeply involved in the community at Congregation Beth Shalom, where they helped create lasting memories and connections.
Travel was one of Sue’s great loves, and her journeys worldwide gave her a profound appreciation for the beauty of diverse cultures. Back home, she was a voracious reader, often losing herself in novels or filling the house with the sound of her guitar and singing—a source of joy for everyone around her.
Her kitchen was always a place of warmth and love, where family and friends gathered to savour her legendary cooking. Proud of her Hungarian heritage, Sue’s chicken paprikash was a treasured dish, while her Oreo cookie ice cream cake became so famous that it was featured in a major newspaper. She was always ready to share her culinary creations and open her home to anyone in need.
A force to be reckoned with on the golf course, Sue was a passionate and skilful player. One of her proudest moments came when she fulfilled a lifelong dream by playing the legendary Blue Monster course with her daughter and grandson. Known to outplay Marvin on occasion, she tackled the game with the same determination, grace, and diplomacy she brought to every aspect of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin S. Cytron; her daughter, Michèle Cytron Linde and husband Carl Fredrik Johannes Linde; son, Michael S. Cytron and wife Kelli Cytron; grandsons Nicholas Cytron and wife Cheyenne, Nathan Cytron and James Linde and wife Kate. She is also survived by her two sisters Sherlye Kinker and Jackie Mestman and husband Jack.
Graveside services will be held at 1pm on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the United Hebrews of New Bern Cemetery.
Sue’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and generosity. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will cherish the countless moments of joy, wisdom, and laughter she brought into their lives. She will be missed deeply, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her.
