Thomas Edward “Eddie” Anderson Jr., 43, of New Bern, NC passed away unexpectedly at home on August 22, 2021. A native of New Bern, Eddie was a graduate of New Bern High School in 1996 and later attended Craven Community College.
Eddie is survived by his mother Glenda Walker Cote, his step-dad Robert William “Billy” Harper Jr., step-sister Melissa Harper Dearian and husband Christopher, his half-brothers Jesse Olgelsby and Jack Anderson, grandmothers Betty Lucille Walker and Mary Price Anderson, aunt Betty Karon Walker, uncles Clinton Arnold Walker, Timothy Van Walker, James William Anderson Jr. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Eddie was preceded in death by his father Thomas Edward Anderson, Sr., grandfathers Elwood Jackson Walker and James William Anderson, Sr., his aunt Lori Anderson Taylor and uncle Carl Joseph Anderson.
He was recently employed by Harris Teeter where he made many new friends. Over the years, Eddie worked at fine restaurants and developed a taste for good food. At one time he wanted to become a chef. He enjoyed preparing new dishes for family and friends on special occasions. Even before his employment with Harris Teeter that was his favorite store to shop because as he said, "They always have what you are looking for." Eddie also loved to read and escape into a good book. He frequently visited the local library for the next one. His love of video games as a child continued into adulthood and he spent many hours gaming.
Eddie was kind and compassionate to others throughout his life. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Whether family, friend or stranger, you could count on him. Even in his early childhood if he saw someone in need he would ask his mother or grandmother if they could give them some money. Eddie had a love for animals too, and had family pets when he was growing up. In recent months while living with his Grandma Lucille Eddie started feeding the neighborhood kitties that came around their home. And then he decided to string dangling toys from the tree limbs in their yard and got so much enjoyment in watching them play. Those same kitties he was feeding are still coming around and waiting for their kind friend Eddie. Eddie’s warm, caring heart will always be remembered as one of the many of the wonderful characteristics of his personality.
When Eddie was a child he especially enjoyed visiting his Granny Anderson for the weekend and they loved playing bingo together. One night he won big and was so excited he could not sleep. Early the next morning he woke up his Granny to take him shopping. With the majority of his winnings he bought his mother a microwave and a few toys for himself. When his Granny took him home he came through the door beaming with pride and joy with a surprise gift for his Mom. He always thought of others.
For the past several years Eddie lived with his Grandma Lucille and assisted his mother Glenda with her care. He cooked healthy meals, ran errands and took her to appointments. At one of these appointments he was trained on diabetes and how to operate and fill her insulin pump and was able to monitor her blood sugar safely. His family could rest easy and sleep at night without worry knowing he was there for her. Eddie and his Grandma Lucille always had a special bond.
One of the many fond memories his Grandma Lucille has of Eddie is he would often share cute and funny videos with her. They would just laugh over and over again. She will cherish these special moments they spent together. We all love him dearly and we miss him so much. He will live in our hearts and memories forever.
Due to the Covid Virus, the Family has chosen to hold a Private Memorial Service for the protection of Family and Friends.
In Lieu of Flowers, Donations in Memory of Eddie may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Capital Humane Society or the Charity of your choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
