He owned Bear Autobody for 20 years which he sold to his friend and business partner, Alex Smith.
His passion was cars, motors, boats, jet skis, anything with a motor, and when he worked on something it was "my way or the highway." The 1969 Ford Bronco was the culmination of his life--he built it from the frame up. Took him 3 years, 2000 man hours, and, ONLY HE knows how much money.
He leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Dana; stepchildren George and Mary; his Dad and stepmother Mike and Rita Mahoney; his mother and stepfather Donna and Robert Smith; sisters Debi, Michelle and Emily; stepsisters Kelly and Christy. Also cousins JP, Nikki and Jenn; aunts Colleen and Sharon, Uncle Gardy and many nieces and nephew and countless friends.
Our thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of UNC Chapel Hill as well as the ones at Carolina East particularly Dr. Sarah Carroll, Dr. Jeremiah Deneve, Dr. Thomas Skelton and, of course, Dr. Robert Fischer and all the hospice nurses who are angels in disguise.
Celebration of life will be at Wes and Dana's home, 401 Savoy Drive, New Bern 28562 on May 2 from 4pm till whenever. Come dressed comfortably and be hungry.
Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Mahoney Family.
