

Bill was born in Snow Hill, NC in 1929, and lived his early life in Pitt County and on a farm that later became Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. The family eventually settled on the Sugg Farm located in the Beech Grove area of New Bern. Bill graduated from Jasper High School in 1947 and served briefly in the U.S. Air Force. He was well known in the community for his service to Trinity United Methodist Church for almost 50 years, for his dedication to the work of the Shriners Children’s Hospital, and his career in real estate. Bill was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, a member of Doric Lodge #568, Scottish Rite, and a Sudan Temple Shriner. Bill was married to Mary Lillie Hill of Kinston, NC for 40 years until her death. His legacy of faith, family and friends will live eternally.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lila O. Sugg, formerly of Fredericksburg, VA and his three children, Wendell Sugg (Anne)of Nebo, NC, Cheryl S. Sharp (Wade) of Annapolis, MD, Davis Sugg (Lisa) of New Bern, NC, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren who fondly called him Pop. He is also survived by his brother, James R. Sugg of New Bern, and sister, Betty Meggs of Elizabeth City, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Natalie and Wendell Davis Sugg, brother, Thomas Sugg, and sister, Sarah Sugg Hill.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
