

Alfredo “El Siete” Varela, Sr., 72, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Kirkwood Manor Nursing Home. He was born to Marcial Varela and Celestina (Morado) Varela on December 19, 1942 in Spring Branch, Texas.
Alfredo spent his childhood growing up in Spring Branch where he learned to hunt and fish and also gained a deep love for the outdoors. His family later moved to New Braunfels where he attended school and made many life-long friends. Alfredo met the love of his life Ms. Margarita Peña and the two were married on August 17, 1960. Alfredo and Margie moved to San Antonio where they worked and raised their family for many years. He worked for the 7up Distributor and also for Randolph Air Force Base. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, singing, dancing and the music of Pedro Infante, Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Elvis Presley. He will be remembered for his quaint sayings, his playfulness, and love for all his family and friends.
He is survived by son, Alfredo “Buzzy” Varela, Jr. and wife Mary Ann; daughter, Rosalinda Vasquez and husband Jose Antonio; son, Chris Varela and Jessica Koepp; son, Rudy Varela and Vangie Flores; Enrique “KiKi” Varela and wife Irene; daughter, Letty Lopez and husband Sam; and son, Andrew Varela all of New Braunfels; sister, Margarita Varela; and brother, Marcial “Grizzley” Varela; 28 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margarita Varela; and daughter, Sylvia Rodriguez.
Public Visitation will begin 5:00 PM Tuesday at Zoeller Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Zoeller Funeral Home with burial to follow in Comal Cemetery.
