Alvin Lee Schultz went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. He was born on December 31, 1936 on a farm south of Meno, Oklahoma. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Oklahoma State University in 1959. Alvin was a member of Grace Fellowship, a Baptist Community in Bulverde. He was active in God’s work and was currently teaching the senior Sunday School class, prior to and during his fight with pancreatic cancer for nearly two years. Alvin served God by teaching several Sunday School classes in different churches throughout his life. He was a deacon in three different churches, all the while supporting his wife, Mary Nell’s children’s churches and mission programs. Alvin considered it a privilege and an honor to serve Jesus.
Alvin was commissioned as a U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant following graduation from college. His first army assignment was “C” Battery 3rd Field Artillery, 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He was the “C” Battery Commander prior to his release from active duty. After leaving the Army, he was employed by Schlumberger as a field engineer and district manager. In 1974, he was employed by Tesoro Petroleum and later joined Petrolero Corp. as chief geologist. Petrolero was a small group of efficient oil finders. At times, Petrolero seemed like a family to Alvin. Due to a slump in the oil business, Alvin ultimately did consulting work for SAWS. He was a pioneer in utilizing and applying petroleum reservoir technology to solving hydrogeology problems by using geophysical logs to determine water quality in the Edwards Aquifer “bad water line”. As a result, 100 square miles of fresh water were defined in southern Medina County that had previously not been known. Later he located the best zone in the Carrizo aquifer for the aquifer and storage project in Southern Bexar County. His association with the SAWS professional personnel was very enjoyable and gratifying. Alvin leaves behind many close friends who miss him. Alvin trusts that he has had a positive Christian influence throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his loving and wonderful wife, Mary Nell Schultz of 47 years, his sisters LaVella Loges of Kake, Alaska and Peggy Smith of Norman, Oklahoma.
