Barbara Jean Newburn made her grand entrance into the world as a dazzling and unexpected blessing. From the very beginning, there was something special about her—a hint of sparkle that would grow into her signature presence. That same light carried her through 92 remarkable years, including the joy of becoming a adoring mother to two daughters, four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was a true original—a loving diva in every sense of the word. From her perfectly painted nails to her carefully styled hair, she believed every day was an occasion worth showing up for. Jewelry wasn’t just an accessory to her; it was part of her signature. Toe rings, anklets, necklaces, and rings adorned her as naturally as her warm smile. Even in her final days, she made sure her nails were polished and her skin well cared for, a quiet testament to her lifelong belief in dignity, self-care, and a little bit of glamour.
She had a special fondness for her beloved Avon treasures—so much so that we often joked she deserved honorary ownership. But beyond the beauty products and sparkle, she carried a heart full of devotion. She deeply loved her husband, Spike Newburn, who preceded her in death, and spoke often of the joy she felt knowing she would one day be reunited with him. In her own impeccable style, she joined her husband in heaven on their 43rd wedding anniversary, April 4, 2026. She also found comfort and peace in her faith, expressing her readiness to be with Jesus.
Her love for her family was constant. She also made close friendships in her last years with the kind folks of Aspen Hospice and Palliative Care. She lived fully, loved deeply, and never lost her sense of self. She reminded us that growing older doesn’t mean dimming your shine.
Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in imagining her now, reunited with her beloved husband, radiant as ever with her favorite cat Kitsy at her side and perhaps adding just a little extra sparkle to heaven.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held Saturday April 25, 2026, at 2:00PM at Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, TX
