

B.C. was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn Smith, and daughter, Betty Cantwell. He is survived by his companion of 31 years, Betty Glenewinkel; son, B.C. Smith Jr.; daughter, Mary E. Lindsey (Kent); 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a large group of extended family.
B.C joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was retired from Civil Service at Kelly AFB for over 35 years. He enjoyed playing Texas Hold’em, going to casinos; and drinking a beer. He will always be remembered as a fun loving and forgiving person. B.C. passed away peacefully at home with companion Betty & Timothy Helmke by his side, who was his close friend and primary caregiver for 3 years.
The Funeral Service will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Zoeller Funeral Home; with visitation and reception to follow. The burial will take place Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
