Friday evening, August 5, 2022, Casey Bilbrey’ s life was stolen by colon cancer. He was born in New Braunfels on December 15, 1978 and lived in the New Braunfels/Comal County area the majority of his life.
Casey attended Canyon High School and graduated in 1996. He was a jack of all trades, and worked in pest control, carpet cleaning, air conditioning and heating, as an electrician’s helper, customer service, a truck driver, equipment operator, mechanic, and crew leader/supervisor just to name a few. He never found a job or task that he could not figure out how to do and do well. His only limitation was his “fat fingers” when he couldn’t get them into a small space.
A loving, devoted father to both of his children, he had an abundance of patience with kids, whether his or someone else’s. With friends from all walks of life, he was always ready to lend a helping hand, no matter what someone needed. If he could not help or did not have the answer, he knew someone that could. There were very few people that Casey met that did not become his friend.
Casey had a passion for auto/diesel mechanics and was never happier than when he was working on a motor alone or with his many auto loving friends on one of their projects. When his son became old enough to help it became even more special, as the two of them would work for hours and stop only when they ran out of light. His daughter was often with him also and was an excellent helper if he needed a “tool runner.” He enjoyed going on the annual Hot Rod Power Tour whenever possible.
He is survived by his son Curtis and daughter Sara, his significant other Amanda Birmingham, mother Patricia Hell and Grandmother Kay Bilbrey. Additional family members include uncles Clayton (Beverly) Hell and Edward (Peggy) Hell, cousins Douglas (Stephanie) Hell, Matthew (Bridget) Hell, Amanda Hell-Miller (Sean) and E.T. (Michelle) Hell. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters from other mothers Melanie and Michael DiGiglio, Lonnie Moon, Brad and Lisa Pfeil, Christopher Simons, Kenneth and Deana Smith, Steven and Laura Tyler. Last, but certainly not least, by his special friends Gypsy, Piglet and Nozy. He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Felsing Bilbrey, stepfather Kenny Jones, grandparents Marvin and Margie Hell, grandfather Curt Bilbrey, and Uncle Buddy (Donald) Simons.
The family also expresses their deep appreciation to Tamara and all the other members of the Hope Hospice team for their assistance though his final illness.
At Casey’s request, no formal funeral service will be held. He asked that family and friends get together and remember his life with a gathering to share stories, tears, laughter, hugs, and memories. The gathering will be held Sunday August 21, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Freiheit Country Store, 2157 FM 1101 in New Braunfels.
