Dalvin “Sonny” Granzin went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born in Georgetown, Texas on November 10, 1929 to Alvin and Mabel Granzin. Sonny was a Veteran of the Korean War and after returning he met and married Weetona “Tona” Herber. They resided in San Antonio where he was employed as a salesman for Richter’s Bakery.
In 1967, Sonny moved the family to Marion, Texas to “get the kids out of the city”. Sonny continued to work at the bakery until he and Tona purchased a meat market in 1981 and with their three sons opened Granzin’s Meat Market and moved to New Braunfels, Texas.
After retiring in 2000, Sonny spent his time with family, did some traveling, and as an avid New York Yankees fan watched every Yankees game he possibly could. He was a man of a few words, had a strong guiding hand, and instilled the ethic of hard work in all his children. We will miss him greatly.
Sonny is preceded in death by his loving wife, Weetona Granzin; parents, Alvin Otto and Mabel (Rydstrand) Granzin; and son-in-law, Regan Wiedner.
He is survived by his six children, Candyce (David) Schumann, Gary Granzin, Mark (Linda) Granzin, Dawn Brooks, Michele Wiedner, Michael (Gwen) Granzin, and by his many loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are his siblings, Dorothy Laubach, Wilburn Granzin, Diana Rippstein; and brothers-in-law, Franklin Herber, L.A Herber, Clifton Herber and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all his many caregivers including, Leleo Meyer, Diane Goble and Ann Baxter of Home Instead Senior Care, nurses and staff at Eden Hill, Hope Hospice and Tiffany Baletka.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 5-7:00 pm, with Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Interment will be at 2:00 pm at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut New Braunfels, Tx., or to a charity of your choice.
