

Ernest M. Bennett of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. He died peacefully at home at the age of 85 years. Ernest was born on January 16, 1929 in Varnville, South Carolina to Wilson Bennett and Hattie Heape Bennett. He graduated from Varnville High School and then joined the Air Force. He met the love of his life in a blind date while stationed at Randolph Air Force Base is San Antonio. They married December 31, 1951 in New Braunfels, Texas. After Military discharge they lived in South Carolina for a short time and then moved back to New Braunfels. He went into Civil service at Kelly Air Force Base and started as an electronics technician. He retired after 40 years. He was active at Harmony Baptist Church as a Deacon, treasurer and was one of the Charter members. He enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzled, and gardening and always loved a good meal. He was well known for his bear-hugs and family and friends could always count on one. He always had a quick wit and was known for his coined phrases. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Hattie Bennett, his loving wife, Mattie Mills Bennett, his son, Ernest Monnie Bennett, Jr. and his sisters, Veda Garringer, Evelyn Jarrell, Thelma Sloman, Viola Long and brother Allen Bennett. He is survived by daughters, Cheryl Seidel and husband Doug, Cathy Bennett, daughter-in-law, Cindy Bennett and son Gary Bennett and Sally McBride, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, plus one on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Harmony Baptist Church; 1472 South Highway 46, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 17, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Zoeller Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
