Ewald R. Haas

Ewald was born at 975 Cross Street in New Braunfels, Texas to Erwin Emil Haas and Erna Alwina (Mueller) Haas. After he was born the family moved to a farm around Marion and Seguin, Texas. Ewald went to Marion High School and lived on a farm until 1948. The family then moved to town in Marion, Texas. Ewald worked for Schulz Lumber yard from August 1948 until March 1951 and worked as a cabinet maker. Ewald was called into the Army March 16, 1951, until March 16, 1953. During this, time he Married Evelyn Valeska Merz on September 11, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marion, Texas. Ewald and Evelyn have been married 74 years. During the Army he was trained at the Motor Maintenance School for the 5th Armored Division at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. When he left the military Bennie Bock, who owned Bock Motor Company, hired him on the spot and “wanted to know if he could start work today”, May 25, 1953. Ewald was one of the first air conditioning specialists. He worked there for 43 years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents Erwin Emil Haas in 1977 and Erna Alwina (Mueller) Haas in 1973 and his only sister Eleanor Haas Schmoekel in 2020 and her husband Udo Carl Schmoekel Jr. in 2021.

Ewald was a member of the Order of the Sons of Hermann and the Germania Farmer Verein in Spring Branch, Texas.

Ewald is survived by his wife of 74 years Evelyn Valeska (Merz) Haas and his sons Ronnie L. Haas and wife Diana, Carey L. Haas and wife Judy, and Sidney E. Haas and wife Holly. Grandchildren Leslee Haas, Kelle Haas, Jake Haas and wife Brittany, Robin (Haas) Fick, Lauren (Haas) Kaden and husband Paul. Great-Grandchildren Charly Grace Kaden, Gage Kaden, Nicholas Haas, Jacob Haas, Micah Fick. One brother-in-law Erwin Merz and his wife Barbara. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 13th from 5-7 PM, The Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 14th at 10:30 AM at Zoeller Funeral Home with burial to immediately follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
