Fernando “Benny” Benavides, age 85 of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Denver VA Hospital surrounded by family. He was born May 30, 1932 to the late Paul and Josefina Benavides. Fernando proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart Medal. After serving in the Marine Corps Reserve, he worked for National Health Care Services where he retired from. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and dogs. Fernando was loved and will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his children, Fernando, Anthony, Eddie, Catherine, Norma, Nora and Christine; his grandchildren, Fernando, Arely, and Brandon.
The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 9:45 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. There will be a Visitation Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held before the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
