Gail Estelle Weber Kosarek, of Nixon, TX, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the age of 88. She was born January 3, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas at the Nix Hospital by the Riverwalk to parents Ben and Sadie Weber.
Gail is survived by her loving husband, Gene Kosarek, of 66 years; daughter Kelli Weimer (husband Rodger Weimer) of Seguin, and daughter Karen Radicke (husband David Radicke) of Austin, and son-in-law Bart Hester of Nixon; grandchildren: Ashley Pena (husband Alex Pena) of Seguin, Lesley Smith (husband Paschal Smith) of Bixby, Oklahoma, Weston Ross Radicke (wife Kiara Radicke) of Austin, Brooke Hester, of Nixon, Texas; great-grandchildren: Aubrey Estelle Pena of Seguin, Texas, Sierra, Savannah and Trey Smith, of Bixby, Oklahoma.
Gail is preceded in death by daughter Bennette Hester and son-in-law Brian Perrill.
Gail attended Nixon High School where she was the drum major so we believe that’s where her leadership ability started! Her father, Ben, was a rancher and a farmer. He grew several crops and raised cattle, horses and chickens, so Gail had a very strong agricultural background.
She attended Southern Methodist University and pledged to the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She then transferred to Texas State University where she obtained her BS in Education and met the love of her life, Eugene Michael Kosarek. Gene was playing football for the Southwest Texas Bobcats. One day, she and her friends were laying out by the river in San Marcos and along came Gene jogging by. Her friends told Gail “You need to get a date with him – he drives a baby blue Cadillac convertible and his dad is a banker!”
They got married December 27, 1958 and had their first daughter, Kelli, 2 years later. Then along came 2 more daughters, Karen and Bennette. She then taught first grade for 33 years for Nixon Smiley ISD. Also, in between all that she and Gene went back to college to obtain their Master’s Degree in Education at Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas.
Gail was an amazing and loving mom and grandmother! She taught all 3 of her daughters to cook, maintain a household, how to set a proper dining room table, clean, ride a horse, fish, and camp. Gail absolutely loved the beach! As a family, we took 2 trips a year to Port Aransas every summer. We would spend all day at the beach where she made lunch with her famous homemade chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches, and mom made sure we had ice cold fruit to eat for dessert and any leftover fruit would be offered to neighboring beach goers. She loved to cook! She has a cookbook collection of over 400 cookbooks. She was so proud that she co-edited 2 cookbooks that were published. She loved to share food, wisdom or whatever else you needed.
In addition to the Texas vacations, she and Gene also traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, and ski trips to New Mexico. Gail and Gene loved football! They were season ticket holders to the University of Texas Longhorn Football games for 12 years.
Gail and Gene became Life Members to the San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo in 2006. Gail was also a model at one of the Galas. They looked forward to attending the rodeo performances every year, and she was always dressed to the 9’s in her black cowboy hat, boots, and turquoise jewelry.
Gail became a member of the Nixon Methodist Church on April 8, 1944.
Gail lived life to the fullest and she loved her family and friends so much! She will be missed, but never forgotten.
A visitation for Gail will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Nixon Methodist Church, 410 N Franklin Ave., Nixon, TX 78140. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM, at Nixon Methodist Church. Graveside will immediately follow at Nixon Cemetery, 1396 County Rd 174, Nixon, TX 78140. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Richardson Christian Center across the street from the Methodist Church.
