George Edward Lackey

George Edward Lackey passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at the age of 90. He was born in Dale, Texas on August 17, 1926 to Lloyd Alton and Lou Ella Rector Lackey. He married Anna Mae “Susie” Fischer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, on December 11, 1947.

George graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1944. He worked first as a carpenter/cabinet maker and then cattle rancher, full time.

George enjoyed the great outdoors. His favorite pastimes were deer hunting, fishing, nine pin bowling, raccoon hunting, and visiting family, friends, and neighbors. He will be remembered as the one with a good story to tell.

George was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Thomas William “T.W.” and Hugh Lackey and one sister, Mary Frances Anderegg.

George was most proud of his family. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 69 ½ years, Anna Mae “Susie” Lackey. Survivors also include two sons, Russell and wife, Karen, of New Braunfels, Don and wife, Barbara, of Marion, one daughter Nancy and husband, William “Rocky” Tays of New Braunfels. Also one sister, Jean Kneuper and husband, Elgin “Butsy” Kneuper of New Braunfels. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses, Angela and Jim Flournoy, Christi and Buddy Lee Sutton, Matthew and Jeana Lackey, Dillon and Liz Lackey, Jessica and Quintin Roberts, Dustin and Jolind Tays, and Lisa and Colby Renfro. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Russell and Lorelei Flournoy, Hunter, Callie, and Trent Lackey, Grace Lackey, and Fischer Roberts.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and Brookdale Hospice for their loving care.

The family will be at Zoeller Funeral Home on Thursday, May 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 to receive visitors. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Fischer Cemetary in Fischer, Texas.
