

Humberto “Bert” Martinez passed away on February 23, 2024. As a resident of Marble Falls, Texas for 50 years, he leaves behind many friends and family who loved him dearly. Fondly known as Bert around Hullum’s barbershop in Burnet, Texas, he sincerely enjoyed cutting hair and had a strong bond with his clients.
Born in New Braunfels, Texas on March 25, 1944, to Francisco and Francisca Martinez, he was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from New Braunfels High School as a fiercely devout Unicorn in 1962. After high school, Bert obtained his barbering license. A year later, he married the love of his life, Alicia. Together they had four children, James, Edward, Daniel, and Monica.
Bert began his 30-year career at the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) in 1968 in New Braunfels, Texas and his LCRA journey moved him to the Hill Country in 1973. He made many dear friends throughout his career at LCRA and kept in touch with them long after his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Francisca, and siblings, Marcelino “Lino”, Damacio, Manuel, Celestino “Chester”, and Paulita “Palla.”
He is survived by his wife Alica; his sister Refugia “Cookie”; his sons: James and daughter-in-law Courtney, Edward and daughter-in-law Carol, Daniel and daughter-in-law Mary; his daughter Monica and son-in-law Tony; his grandchildren EJ, Stefanie, Kaileigh, Cassidy, Ryne, Rheygan, Johdy, Robynne, Camdyn and Jackson; great-grandchildren Kenneth, Lily, Riley, Benny and Lyda; and many nieces and nephews.
On Monday, March 4th, a Rosary will be recited at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church located at 386 North Castell Avenue in New Braunfels, Texas at 9:30 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow in Saints Peter & Paul Mausoleum immediately following mass. There will be a light luncheon served after the funeral service at the church hall located on the campus of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Memorial Contributions may be given in his memory to: St. John Catholic Church Marble Falls Building Fund. Pallbearers are Tony Jaimes, Martin Villanueva, Johdy Martinez, Caesar Martinez, Melvine “Bud” Armagost and Will Smith.
