

SFC James “Jim” Francis Neary, Sr., age 79, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on September 1, 2011 at BAMC in San Antonio, Texas after a two year battle with lung cancer. He was born on Nov. 12, 1931 in Boston, Mass. to Joseph and Alice Hammond Neary. He married Mary E. Moy Neary on Nov. 17, 1956 in Belton, Texas. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1973, and managed several local businesses including Skate Skeller, Barkels, and Super Dog Drive-In.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son James F. Neary, Jr., a sister Alice Mosher, brothers Donald, Frank, William, and Joseph.
He is survived by daughters Theresa A. Neary, Katherine J. Weber (Marcus, Sr.), Cynthia L. Foster, and Suzanna M. Neary, all of New Braunfels; grandchildren Cory J. Weber (Elizabeth), Matthew M. Foster (Vanessa), and Sarah E. Foster-Wilson (Travis); step-grandchildren Bonnilee Stevens (Bill), Dean Rutherford (Emily), and Sonny Weber, also great-grandchildren Abigail Weber and Aiden Wilson, and nine step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Barbara Watkins and brother Paul, numerous nieces and nephews, friend and nephew Frank Neary, all of New England; and numerous in-laws in Texas.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Zoeller Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be conducted on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the
Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments for family and friends at the church hall following the interment.
