Laura (nee Burris) Behrendt died on April 27, 2018 in Austin, Texas at the age of 95. The daughter of Roy F. & Emma L. (nee Hester) Burris, Laura was born on Oct. 23, 1922 in Seguin. When she was a young woman she lost her mother which had a profound impact on her life. She remained very close to her father for many years until his passing at the age of 103. Laura met the love of her life, the late Franklin J. “Rusty” Behrendt, while both of them were working at Guadalupe Valley Creamery. They were married on April 20, 1941. The couple lived in central Texas for the majority of their 50 years of marriage. To this union was born one daughter, Rebecca.
Laura was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener, had a keen interest in American history, and enjoyed reading. Another passion was genealogy and she spent many enjoyable hours researching her family history. A loving and supportive mother, wife, and grandmother, Laura learned the importance of family early and she carried those connections close to her heart throughout her life.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Mark Konen of Austin; her grandson, Andrew Konen of Austin; one niece and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died in 1991, and her beloved sister, Marjorie Dwyer.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018, at First United Methodist Church Chapel in Seguin. Interment will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery in Seguin. Reception following at the home of Birdie Kuempel, 1855 Monterey Oak, Seguin.
