

She was born to Dr. Karl Helmuth and Anna Christina Muller in Gottingen, Germany on October 27, 1926. She was there during the beginning of WWII and went to Nursing School in Denmark. She graduated as a Registered Nurse, from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1953. Then she went to England where she graduated as a Mid-Wife, Salvation Army Hospital London, England in 1953. Since her father was a Navy Doctor her parents stayed in Germany. She then traveled to Egypt where she was a staff Nurse at the University Of Cairo Hospital (1955-1957). She was evacuated during the first Arab-Israeli War. Her next stop was Haiti. There she was a staff Nurse at the Ablert Schweitzer Hospital, St. Marc. She worked there from January to August 1957. This is also where she met her future husband, Eric Irwin Anderson Moum. They were married on August 18, 1957 three times in one day - with a Haitian Justice of Pease, an American Representative of the U.S. Ambassador, and a Catholic Priest in a church. They lived in Haiti approximately 13 years. In 1970 they moved to the McAllen Texas. 1971 they moved to Monte Alto Texas. In 1974 the family moved to Edinburg, Texas. She also became a U.S. citizen in 1974. She worked as a teacher’s aid and went to school at night to become a teacher. 1979 she graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. 1985 she graduated with her Masters. She taught in the Pharr San Juan Alamo school district for approximately 12 years. She retired in 1992 to take care of her youngest grandchild Mathew. In December of 1975 her and her husband moved to New Braunfels. She had been a resident of New Braunfels for the last 14 years.
She is preceded in death, by her parents, her husband, and one sister.
She is survived by her children Kristin Moum from Seguin, Eric Moum from New Braunfels, and Karin Isaccs (Philip) from Edinburg, two grandsons Justin and Mathew Isaacs from Edinburg, and four grand pets Pal, Chief, Melissa, and Jazzmen.
Graveside services will be Monday, October 10, 2011 at 3 pm at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
