Louaunna K. Gibbens

Lou loved her family and was a loving wife, dedicated mother, amazing Granma and friend to many. She graduated from Killeen High School. She then attended Southwest Texas State University where she met the love of her life, John Wyatt Gibbens. They married on July 13, 1956 in Hamilton, Texas, raised three children and celebrated 59 years of marriage before John’s passing in 2015. She graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She was a dedicated and loving Kindergarten teacher for over 30 years, teaching in San Antonio’s NEISD for 31 years and in the Kerrville ISD for 2 years before retiring from teaching to live in Mountain Home, Texas.

Lou was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. She was an active member of Rebecca Creek Baptist Church of Spring Branch, Texas where she proudly served in the Heart to Heart Missionary Circle, Helping Hands Food Pantry, RCBC Nursery and the Good News Club. She loved her church family and service to her church community was both a privilege and a blessing in her life. She was also member of the Texas Retired Teacher Association, Texas State Teachers Association and a proud member of the Southwest Texas University Bobcat Club.

Lou was preceded in death by her devoted husband John Wyatt Gibbens; her parents; brother Ben Koen and his wife Judy, brother-in-law Bobby Gibbens and wife Laquita, brother-in-law Sid Gibbens and wife Jo, and son-in-law, Doug Kelley. She leaves behind her children: Rachel Lynn Kelley of New Braunfels, TX, Peter West Gibbens (Mary) of La Vernia, TX and Daniel Wyatt Gibbens (Jeri) of Bulverde, TX. She is also survived by her sister Ginger Pratt and husband Robert. She will be dearly missed by her 9 grandchildren, and 18 beloved great-grandchildren as well as many nephews, nieces, family and an amazing group of friends.

Services will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, TX 78130. Visitation will be Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 3:00–5:00 PM. Funeral service will be Monday, August 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Sunset Cemetery, 5123 Junction Hwy, Mountain Home, TX 78058.
