Maria Gonzales Amaro

Maria Gonzales Amaro passed on to be with the Lord on August 31st, 2017, in New Braunfels, Texas. Maria had a large family that loved her dearly. She was the eldest girl of a family of five girls and six brothers. She is preceded in death by her parents Florentina Gonzalez Amaro and Sabino Amaro; brothers Elias Amaro and wife Bertha, Frank Amaro and surviving wife Mary C. Amaro, John Amaro and wife Evangelina Amaro; and sister Connie Amaro Rooney. She is survived by brothers Archie Amaro and wife Stella (deceased), Tony Amaro and wife Guadalupe (deceased), and Robert Amaro and wife Corrine; and sisters Carmen Amaro, Paula Barrera and husband Ezekiel, Jessie A. Dennis and husband Barron (deceased). She is also survived by numerous cousins and caring nieces and nephews.

Maria was the matriarch of the Amaro family. After her mother Florentina Amaro’s death in 1968 she took care of her family. She was an amazing cook and kept a wonderful garden well into her 90s.

Her faith in God kept her involved in various religious groups. She was a long standing member of the Conservation Society. The members always enjoyed her delicious cookies.

She enjoyed her life doing charitable work with her dear friend Irene Snyder, whose daughter Mary and husband Jimmy Higgins have greatly contributed to her well-being. The family is grateful for their generous hearts. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hope Hospice for their wonderful service.

Public Visitation will take place at Zoeller Funeral Home on Landa Street Wednesday, September 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 7, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Braunfels. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
