Maria M. Hernandez, age 89, of San Antonio, TX passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at the William Assisted Living in San Antonio, Texas. She was born to Louis and Paula Suarez in Round Rock, Texas on May 8, 1931.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Antonio Hernandez; sons David L. Hernandez (Jane) and Rene A. Hernandez (Beverly), grandchildren Amanda Zars (Charles), Michael Hernandez, Mathew Hernandez, Christopher Hernandez (Christine), and Susan Slovachek. Also survived by great-grandchildren Ava, Eli, and Ty Zars, and Ember Valentine. Surviving sibling is brother Lupe Suarez of New Braunfels, Texas along with numerous nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by her parents and siblings Ramona Villareal, Victoria Campos, Louisa Munoz, Eufracia “Pache” Ortega, Mary Martinez, and brothers Gabriel Garcia, Juan Suarez, Pedro Suarez, and Daniel Suarez. She was a military spouse and lived throughout the United States and in Tripoli, Libya. Maria was a graduate of New Braunfels High School and was a supporter of Texas A&M University, the Astros, and the Texans. She worked as an LVN in her early career and later served for many years as a Financial Advisor for the Houston Memorial Southwest Hospital.
A Private Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 11, 2020 at Zoeller Funeral Home with Reverend Jose L. Munoz officiating. Burial will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to thank The William Assisted Living of San Antonio for their dedication and care, especially the staff of Memory Care Cottage C and Brookdale Hospice . The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
