

Maria was born on December 11,1929, in La Pryor, Texas to Juan Castillon, Sr. and Herminia Mendez Castillon. She married her husband, Erineo Silva, Sr., in 1949, in Lubbock, Texas, and they were married for 59 years.
Maria will be remembered for being a strong woman of faith and prayer, as well as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a woman ahead of her time. In an era where most women were homemakers, she chose to work outside the home. She gave her best to everything she did and never shied away from hard work. She also worked hard at instilling her beliefs and values in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maria was strong, loving, funny and spoke honestly and candidly. She considered her family, her greatest accomplishment.
Maria was an excellent seamstress and worked at Dickies Work Clothes Rental, Cater Frock, later known as Jarrell, Inc. (or Lizann). She also worked for Comal ISD for many years until her retirement.
She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where she was a member of the Guadalupanas, the Mariachi Choir and later served as a Eucharist minister for 31 years, where she visited and delivered communion to the sick and elderly, until 2020.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erineo Silva, Sr.; her parents, Juan and Herminia Castillon; her four brothers, Edmundo, Leopoldo, Elias and Juan, Jr.; her sister, Idalia, and her only son-in-law, Oscar Grider.
She is survived by three sons, Juan Silva (Fay), Erineo “Ernie” Silva, Jr. (Betty), Henry Silva (Geneva) and daughter, Dora Silva-Grider. Nine grandchildren, Loriann Silva-Aleman (Robert), Adam Silva (Megan), Daniel Grider (Amanda), Chris Silva (Kayla), Julie Casto (Michael), Henry Silva, Jr (Tonia), Cassandra “Cassie” Silva, Jeremy Silva, and Laci Silva. Thirteen great grandchildren, Alexis, Zoe, Logan, Isabella, Tyler, Camila, Emmi, Olivia, Elijah, Seraphina, Caspian, Mindy and Henry III. One sister, Susie Vasquez of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
The immediate family will have a private viewing at Zoeller Funeral Home (in New Braunfels, Texas) between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Thursday September 4, 2025, followed by a public visitation from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Rosary will be held at 6:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (in New Braunfels, Texas) on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 10:00 am. Viewing at the church will be from 9:00 – 9:45 am. Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in New Braunfels, Texas.
