

Marilyn Jean Warner Alexander passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the age of 84. She was born in Akron, Ohio on April 30, 1932 to Amos and Mary Warner. Marilyn grew up in Akron and was the oldest of seven children. She attended Saint Paul’s Catholic School until the family moved to Texas in the early 1940s. She was a great story teller and historian and loved to entertain her brothers and sisters and later her nieces & nephews with wonderful stories about the past. As a child she had Scarlett Fever but had two imaginary friends to keep her company while she recuperated. Her nickname was Deroonie; given to her by one of the boys.
In 1975 she received a BA in Psychology from UT Austin. Marilyn had a 33 year career at both University of Texas in Austin and San Antonio. She loved her work and enjoyed lasting friendships with her colleagues. After moving to San Antonio she was the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Dental School at UTSA prior to her retirement in 2000. Some of her achievements include the Recipient of Excellence award from UT in 1983 and creating and facilitating the UTHSC Mentor Program with John Glenn Elementary in San Antonio. Marilyn enjoyed being involved in the community. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Schertz, the Saint Ann’s Society, as well as the Red Hat Society. Marilyn was adventuresome. She and her husband Jeff owned a race horse, played golf and rode Harley Davidson motorcycles together. She was a great friend, artist, a wonderful cook, intelligent, compassionate, generous and so much more. She loved Longhorn football, traveling and being on the water. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and her ability to make lemonade when life handed her lemons. Most of all she will be remembered for her love of family and friends and for always making them the most important aspect of her life.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, William Edward “Bill” Hatfield; loving husband, Thomas Jefferson “Jeff” Alexander; parents, Amos Clement Warner and Mary Wolfe Warner; brother, John David Warner; and nephew, John David Warner, Jr.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Rose Trevino Hatfield; step son, John Alexander, sisters Joan Rowland and Carol Bortner; brother, Thomas Warner and wife Brenda Warner; sister in law Betty Warner; brother, Joseph Warner and wife Kaki Warner; sister, Linda Pyles and husband Greg Pyles; grandchildren, Joshua, Kara, Daniel, Tasha, Marsha, Meredith and Jillian; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 5-8pm at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 10am at Zoeller Funeral Home. The Graveside Service will be on Wednesday at 2:00pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas
