

Colonel Marlin Dale Brendsel (US Army Retired) passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at University Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 68. He was born to Rolland Brendsel and Neva (Kleppe) Brendsel on May 17, 1949 in Dell Rapids, SD. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Brendsel; daughter, Camille Brendsel; son, Erick Brendsel and wife Jennifer Floyd; grandchildren, Bret Mathews, Briella Brendsel, Scarlett Brendsel, and Aurora Brendsel; sister, Darlene Phelan and husband Tom; brother, Richard Brendsel and wife Michal; sister-in-law, Cathy Crocker and husband Larry; brother-in-law, David Hewitt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Marlin previously flew the UH-1 Huey helicopter during his Army career and also served in the National Guard/Army Reserve. Before retiring, Marlin also had a long successful career with the VA Hospital as an engineer. He was active in the VFW, Boy Scouts, Master Naturalist group, and NB Volkssport club. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, and brother while being a wonderful Papa to all his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed! Public Visitation will begin 5:00 PM Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Zoeller Funeral Home and will continue until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Monday, November 27, 2017 at Gruene United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, TX.
