
Paul Thompson Parker was born to Tom Deway Parker and Grace Shaw Parker on May 30, 1922 in Praire Point, Texas. He graduated from Lovelady Senior High School and attended Sam Houston University in Huntsville and Tyler Commercial College in Tyler, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Wilma Merritt Parker.
As a young man he spent two years in the Army in the European Theater of Operations. Later he became an expert on using and selling small and large trucks, working for John Deere, GMC, and Chevrolet Trucks, and the Union City Body Company. He worked in several states but was headquartered in Shreveport and New Orleans, Louisiana, and Houston and Dallas, Texas.
Since 1996 he has lived in San Antonio, Texas, where he and Wilma came to be near Wilma’s daughter, Janie Nash (husband Richard) and their children. He remained in San Antonio after Wilma’s death. He and Ruth Grubbs were married in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Grubbs Parker, and her three children, Laurelyn, Larry, and Suzanne, as well as Wilma’s children, Janie Nash and Donny Merritt and their families. His immediate family includes Tom D. Parker (wife Majel), Velma Petty, Sybil Stout (husband, Jack) and cousins, Virgil Parker and Truman and Glover Sanders. His love of dominoes led to friendships in the Windcrest area of San Antonio, and he is loved and remembered by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends from Wilma’s family, work and church.
The graveside service will be in the Clapp Cemetery in Trinity, Texas on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 3:00 PM. Later there will be a celebration of his life in San Antonio. Memorials may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
