Richard "Dick" Douglas Gannaway

Richard “Dick” Gannaway, 87, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025. Born on May 4, 1938, to Robert Lloyd and Vera Gannaway in Cisco, Texas, Dick grew up alongside his older brother, Robert “Bob.” From the beginning, he lived life on his own terms—steadfast, hardworking, and full of grit. He was the quintessential Texas rancher, with a passion for calf roping, ranching, two stepping, and a knack for common sense wisdom. As he said, “Life will give you ups and downs. If you can cope with the downs, the ups will make themselves.”

Dick’s early years took him briefly to Mena, Arkansas, before his family settled in Uvalde and then Seguin, Texas. He graduated from Seguin High School, where he played football and developed a love for waterskiing on Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid.

After high school, Dick pursued ranching which took him all over Texas—a life of open spaces, hard work, and the steady presence of animals. He possessed a natural gift for ranch management and built a highly successful livelihood around it. His greatest joy, however, came from calf roping and hanging out with his roping friends (which includes the horses).

Later in life, Dick returned to Seguin and founded the Seguin Overhead Door Company and the New Braunfels Garage Door Company. Entrepreneurship suited him well, and he cherished the freedom of being his own boss.

Throughout his life, Dick’s integrity was unwavering. He leaves behind a legacy of exceptional work ethic, honesty, and living as a man of his word. Those who knew him never doubted that he would do exactly as he promised.

Dick is survived by his son, Rick Gannaway and wife Kathy; daughter, Teena Wingenroth and husband Randy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Gannaway; his parents, Robert Lloyd and Vera Gannaway; and his brother, Robert.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilson County Cowboy Church in La Vernia, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
