

Colonel Samuel (Sam) Everett Stocks (USAF, ret), age 78, joined The Church Triumphant on Nov. 23, 2017. Sam was born to Edgar G. Stocks, of Bayfield, CO and Ruth Keener of Galveston, TX on Nov. 18,1939 in Winslow, AZ. Sam graduated from Tempe Union High School in Tempe, AZ in 1957. In 1961, he graduated from Arizona State University in Phoenix, AZ. Sam would eventually earn three more advanced degrees in Psychology. He also is a graduate of the National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the FBI Academy. Sam was commissioned into the Air Force Security Police in 1961. He served as a Security Police Officer, Security Police Commander, Security Police Staff Officer, and during the Vietnam War he was a Psychological Warfare Officer. At the time of his retirement from the Air Force in 1988, Sam was Deputy Chief of Staff of Security Police for the Military Airlift and Transportation Commands. Sam was a founding member and first President of the former Air Force Security Police Association. He was a member of the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church choir and at one time sang with several Barbershop Quartets. Sam loved music and when enjoying his cabin in northern AZ, he attended “deck church” sitting on the cabin deck listening to all his favorite gospel hymns echoing along the canyon walls below. He also was active in the life of his community. At the time of his death, Sam was the Moderator of Garden Ridge’s Planning and Zoning Commission, member of the city’s Impact Fee Committee, and President of the Trophy Oaks Homeowners Association where his “favorite house ever” was located. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Donald Stocks, and Maxine Stocks Boggs. He is survived by his wife, Chaplain, Colonel Karen Stocks (USAF, ret); sister, Vivan Putman; daughter, Lorrie Stocks Scheller; son, Don Angus Stocks and wife Elise Paisley; granddaughters, Samantha Scheller, Paisley Stocks, Sydney Baily Scheller, and Bronwyn Stocks; sister-in-law, Tomme Hall; nieces and nephews Denise Putman Major, Bill Putman, Dale Putman, Kathleen Putman Weitz, Ruth Stocks Werner, Craig Stocks Krell, Bill Boggs, Janet Boggs English, Natalie Boggs and Sam Boggs; and so many cousins, grand nieces and nephews, colleagues, and friends for whom he remains an inspiration for his encouraging faith, boundless and joyful enthusiasm, and a zest for life reflected in the twinkle of his smiling eyes.
VISITATION, Thursday, December 14, 2017, 5:00-7:00 P.M., Zoeller Funeral Home Chapel, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, TX. SERVICE IN WITNESS OF THE RESURRECTION, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2017, 2:00 P.M., New Braunfels Presbyterian Church, 373 Howard St, New Braunfels TX with the Rev. Scott Nowack officiating followed by a reception to share “the stories.” In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Braunfels Presbyterian Church, the Air Force Security Forces Association, or a charity of one’s choice.
