

He was born on March 6, 1975, in Niles, Michigan, to Susan Parsons-Hutchings and Jay Coplen. After Scott graduated from Ross Beatty High School in 1993, he went on to study Business Management at Louisiana State University. Scott earned his Bachelor’s degree and worked for several years at both United Built Homes and Double K Contracting as their top home sales associate. Eventually Scott decided to kickstart his own business, C & H Custom Homes, managing and building many beautiful custom homes around Texas.
Scott was hardworking, driven, passionate, and supportive. This was evident in his determination to earn his college degree and his desire to be an entrepreneur. Apart from being a workaholic, he loved LSU, especially football, spoiling his boxer fur babies, traveling, being the best tour guide for his out-of-state guests, and hanging with family and friends. He was also a devoted grandson, son, brother, and uncle.
Scott will be greatly missed. He is survived by his father, Jay (Teresa) Coplen of Niles, MI; his sister, Amie (Justin) Anderson of Cassopolis, MI; his step-sister, Heather (Brian) Baldwin of Niles, MI; his nieces and nephews, Lauren, Sydney, Gavin, Shawn (Nisana), and Andrew; his grandmothers, Edna Caler of Nacogdoches, TX, and Mattie Haines of Niles, MI. He was preceded in death by his mother Susan Parsons-Hutchings, his grandfathers Duane Coplen and Lloyd Parsons, and his grandmother Aylene Parsons.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. to lay Scott to rest next to his mother, Susan Parsons-Hutchings, in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, 61455 M-51 North, Niles, Michigan, 49120. Following the graveside burial, Scott’s celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. in the Gregarek Building at the Cass County Fairgrounds,590 North O’Keefe Street, Cassopolis, Michigan, 49031.
