Shirley Bozeman Thieme, 92, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Burleson, Texas. Born in Greenville, Mississippi, on January 7, 1933, she was the beloved daughter of Talmadge and Frances Bozeman.
While working at the Greenville Air Force Base, Shirley met the love of her life, Roger Thieme. They married in 1958 and shared 52 devoted years together. As an Air Force wife, Shirley supported Roger’s military career, embracing a life of travel across the United States and abroad, including time spent in Germany. Together, they raised three children and built a life filled with adventure, dedication, and family.
A natural entrepreneur with an eye for design, Shirley opened her first gift shop, Kristi’s Cards, Candles and Gifts, in 1972. What began as a single store soon grew into multiple locations in San Antonio and New Braunfels. Her stores, which eventually included Hallmark Gold Crown locations, were known for their quality merchandise and trend-forward home décor. Her final shop location was in a beautifully renovated space on West San Antonio Street, formerly Weyel’s Grocery.
After retiring from retail in 1989, Shirley and Roger built their dream home in the Hunters Creek subdivision in the San Antonio area, where they enjoyed many happy years. Never one to sit still, Shirley found new joy from 2000 to 2020 helping with flowers at Blumen Meister’s Flower Market. She took particular pride in processing every stem that came through the door.
In 2021, Shirley moved to Burleson, Texas, to be closer family. She relished decorating her new home and quickly made connections with her neighbors, enjoying afternoon porch visits and warm conversations.
Shirley will be dearly missed for her wit, strong opinions, sense of humor, and her unwavering love for her family.
She is survived by her son Michael Thieme and his wife Paula; daughter Kristi Ely and her husband Jack; grandson Jason Ely and his wife Megan; and great-grandchildren Brooks and Kate Ely. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Emma Thieme, and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Thieme; her son, Allan Thieme; daughter-in-law Stacie Thieme; her parents, Talmadge Bozeman and Frances McCourt; her brother, Edward Bozeman; and sister-in-law Diane Bozeman.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her devoted caregiver, Michelle, whose kindness and compassion brought Shirley great comfort.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Zoeller Funeral Home Chapel in New Braunfels. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, Texas.
