
Thomas Davidek, Jr. of New Braunfels, TX passed away the evening of December 22nd, 2010, after a 3 ½-year battle with leukemia. Tommy was born on January 28th, 1937 in Wharton to Tom & Dorothy Davidek. He grew up in Boling. At Boling High School, he excelled at football and track, and went on to play football for Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi and Texas A&I University in Kingsville. In 1959, the Javelinas won the NAIA National Championship. During his senior year, Tommy was offered a contract with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. He chose to stay close to home and family and pursue a career in coaching instead. At Texas A&I, Tommy majored in Mathematics and Education. Excelling at math, his nickname as a youth was “Univac Davidek.” He married his high school sweetheart, Johnnie Mae Miska on September 28th, 1958. Tommy spent a number of years coaching high school football, mostly in Kingsville. On July 9th, 1978 Tommy opened his first Kettle Restaurant in San Marcos. He had a long and successful career in the restaurant business, owning multiple Kettle & Skillet’s Restaurants scattered around Texas. He also owned Molly Joe’s, which was named after Johnnie Mae’s parents, and Cancun Café, both in New Braunfels.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Mae, his son Dirk of Helotes, his daughter DeLynn of San Antonio, and 5 grandchildren, Gerard, Steven, Nicholas, Emory Mae, and Ellison.
Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 29th at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Viewing from 10 AM to 11 AM, services from 11 AM to Noon, and a reception following the services.
