Thora I. Williams

Thora Irene Williams was born on her family farm in Devine, Texas, on October 18, 1922, to Peter Andrew Huegele and Louise Elizabeth (Reitzer) Huegele. She passed peacefully from this life at the age of 101 on October 2, 2024.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay L. Braune, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Eugene L. Williams, and her only grandchild Mark Allen Braune. She is also predeceased by a sister, Lorene, and her four brothers, Herbert, Elton, Emery and Olan Huegele and their spouses, and two nephews, Pete Huegele and Gerald Huegele.

Thora attended a three-room schoolhouse in Devine for elementary education and graduated from Devine High School in 1940. In high school, she was awarded the All-Around Girl medal and a certificate for excellence in spelling. After that, she lived and worked in San Antonio, where she met her husband whom she married in 1943. She worked at various San Antonio companies during her career as a bookkeeper, most of those years at the Nix Hospital in the business office. After retiring, Thora became a volunteer in the Activities Department of Edenhill Communities and enjoyed more than 25 years of sewing wheelchair bags and pouches and doing whatever was asked of her. Her family was the most important part of her life. So in 1993, she moved to New Braunfels with her daughter and grandson to be closer to extended family. She joined First Protestant Church and became an active member of the congregation and women’s ministries. Thora loved flowers and plants and spent many hours keeping a beautiful yard. She also enjoyed many years of frequent family gatherings to visit, shell pecans, and eat good food with her favorite people. She was a kind and gracious soul and will be greatly missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate a donation in her memory to the capable and loving staff at Edenhill Communities, attention Employee Appreciation Fund, 631 Lakeview Blvd, New Braunfels, TX 78130.

Visitation will be held Monday October 21, 2024 from 12:00 noon until Service time beginning at 1:00 PM. at Zoeller Funeral Home.
