

After living a full and giving life, Vera B.Taylor, age 90, passed away in New Braunfels, TX, on July 13, 2010. She was born on March 1, 1920, in San Antonio, TX, to Eugene Edward Stallcup and Lola Howard Stallcup. The family lived in Rio Frio, Barnhart, San Angelo and Austin before settling in Uvalde where she graduated from high school as Salutatorian in 1936. She worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Suttle and Kessler for four years. In December of 1940, she became the first woman employed at Goodfellow Air Base in San Angelo. On April 21, 1941, she married J. Austin Taylor and returned to Uvalde. When J. joined the Army in January 1943, she followed him to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland where she was employed by the Judge Advocate Generals Office. When J. was sent overseas in 1944, she returned to Austin and attended the University of Texas for one year. After the war, she and J. moved to Carrizo Springs and purchased the Dimmit Supply Company, which they operated for 40 years. She lived in Carrizo Springs until J.’s death in 1992 after which she moved to New Braunfels to be near her daughter. She was a devoted wife and mother and a proud and doting grandmother.
Vera was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She loved to play bridge, do needlework, travel with her husband and play games with her granddaughters. Throughout her life she made many enduring friendships, and she took great pleasure in staying in close touch with each one of them. First and foremost she was a devout Christian whose faith never wavered. She demonstrated this on a daily basis by the life she lived. She was a member of the Church of Christ for over 70 years.
She is survived by daughter Tamara Varner and husband Larry of New Braunfels and son Tim Taylor and wife Debra of Rockville, MD. She is also survived by granddaughters Taryn Varner, Tatum Taylor and Sloane Taylor; grandsons Wade Varner and Dillon Varner and two great-grandchildren, Caden Varner and Emma Varner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Beth Young.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday July 15, 2010, at the New Braunfels Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Uvalde, TX, at 4:30 pm. Donations may be made in her honor to Medina Childrens Home or Hope Hospice in New Braunfels.
