

Carmela was born in Oakfield, NY, and was the daughter of the late Corrado and Giovanna (Luciano) Gionfriddo. As a small child, she worked in the fields helping to support her family, and endured with encourage and strength during the difficult times of World War I. She immigrated to USA in 1955 settling in Oakfield, NY, moving to New Britain in 1955.
She was a member of St. Ann Church, and worked at a coat factory, American Bazaar, in New Britain for many years and retiring in 1979. She enjoyed cooking for her family, playing the lotto, gardening, shopping with her dear, devoted daughter Josephine, and watching her grandchildren grow, always worried about their safety and welfare. She was the loving matriarch of her family and will be dearly missed by all of them.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Giovanni Scalora, of whom she looked foward to joining him in heaven. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law who stayed by her side, Josephine and Angelo Corallo, grandchildren (Giuseppe and Marisa Corallo) and two birds (Paulie and Gio) who brought her immense joy to her life. She is also survived by daughter and son-in-law Lucia and Serafino Lorenzo of Italy, and grandchild Carmello Lorenzo and his wife Francesca.
Carmela also leaves behind four sister-in-laws and their spouses, Lucia and Nunzio Trovato of New Britain; Olga and Angelo Saraceno of Berlin; Yolanda and Bruno Ciccio of Berlin; Rose and Salvatore Marino of New Britain; Giovanna Scalora and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind dear and close family friends of whom she considered second daughters, Ninette Vaverchak and Maria Accera from New Britain.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Carmela was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 8:00AM at the New Britain Memorial – Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 9:00AM at St. Ann Church, 47 Clark St. New Britain. Burial services will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
