

Edward M. Grunwald, 81 of New Britain died at home on Saturday, October 16, 2010. He was a native and lifelong resident of New Britain. Proudly served his country during WWII in Japan, among his awards he received the victory medal.Edward served as a Detective in the New Britain Police Department for 38 years retiring in 2002. He also worked for many years in Sears.Ed was a proud gentleman, who always went out of his way to say a kind word to someone.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 18 years, Laura (Baruffi) Grunwald and 10 beloved children, Linda Judson and her husband, Wesley; David and Gary Grunwald; Danny Grunwald and his wife, Diane; Jeanie Grunwald; Tommy Grunwald and his wife, Linda; Nancy and Carin Grunwald; Lisa Callaghan and Joanne White. He is also survived by 18 loving grandchildren, and 3 precious great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as his brother in law, Ted Kulak. He was predeceased by to sister, Doris McCarthy and Jane Kulak.Funeral Services will begin Thursday, October 21. 2010 at 9:00 AM at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Church.. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their last respect on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home (directions: I-84, right off exit #37, 1 ½ miles on right). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Prudence Crandall Center on 18 Hart St. New Britain, CT 06053.
