Joseph F. Troy Sr., 86, of Plainville, entered into eternal peace at his home on July 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after a valiant struggle with cancer. Born in New Britain on May 28, 1927, he was the son of the late Alfonso and Filomina (Montanile) Troy.
Joe was a Veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army Infantry and Medical Corps in Europe, as well as three years in the Medical Reserve Corps. As a First SGT over a medical unit in Marseille, France he handled the administration and general efficiency of his unit. Joe was awarded the decoration WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal.
Joe retired from Pratt & Whitney in Middletown. As an avid baseball fan he announced play by play over the intercom the World Series when the Red Sox played. Joe also enjoyed coaching "The Gems" softball team he had formed at Pratt & Whitney. He loved doing crossword puzzles, listening to jazz, reading, and especially spending time with his grandchildren often taking them on scenic drives and serenading them. In his most recent years he enjoyed his passion for billiards, playing in tournaments with his circle of treasured friends. Joe’s greatest gifts to his family and friends were his quick wit, artistic drawing, eloquent writing, and words of love, wisdom, and support. Above all, Joe’s proudest and most enjoyable times were spent with his children and grandchildren and sharing in the accomplishments of their lives.
Joe leaves his wife Mary Ann (Doucette) Troy to whom he was a devoted husband and in love with for 61 years. They were married April 19, 1952 at St. Mary's Church in New Britain and later resided in Middletown raising their family of four children. His daughters Arlene Colantuono and her husband Stephen, Linda Violette and her husband David, Cynthia Troy, and his son Joseph Troy Jr. and his wife Lisa will immensely miss their gentle and beloved father Joe. The grandchildren he most treasured with pride, Kylee Violette, Luke Violette, Kate Rose Colantuono, Nicholas Colantuono, Michael Troy, Samantha Troy, and Matthew Troy will forever hold him in their hearts. His loving and devoted sister Rose Bakaysa also survives Joe.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from so many of his friends and family over the past year.
