“The story of life is quicker
Than the wink of an eye
The story of love is hello and goodbye
Until we meet again.” – Jimi Hendrix, “The Story of Life”
Kenneth J. Moran, 62, of New Britain, left the world too soon on Sunday, December 8, 2013. Ken was born on October 22, 1951 in New Britain and was son to the late James and Florence (Dull) Moran.
He was employed by Stop & Shop, where he was an inventory clerk for 46 years. He was also a member of the United Food and Commercial Worker's Union Local 919 for 40 years.
Called “Benny” and “Uncle Bone” by loved ones, he was an avid golfer who loved to teach others how to excel at the sport. He participated in many local golf tournaments, appearing on the leader-board more often than not. He loved 1970s music, especially rock. To quote Lynyrd Skynyrd, he was a “simple kind of man,” who treasured time spent with friends and at the beach, soaking up the sun. He was kind to everyone he met and loved to make others laugh. He could often be heard quipping, “Money’s not an object until you run out!” and “I used to think it was me until I looked around!”
He was a free spirit who never owned a cell phone and still used paper maps. In fact, he kept a map in his glove compartment, which he joked would help him find Woodstock again.
In 1973, he married his high school friend, Donna, and remained married to her for more than 20 years. His greatest pride was their son, Brendan, whom he taught to golf and introduced to the music of many bands.
He is survived by his son, Brendan Moran, and his wife, Rebecca, of North Carolina; his sister, Nancy Moran of New Haven; his aunt, Helen Myska of New Britain; and many long-time friends.
With respect to Ken’s wishes, services will be private. To share your condolences and memories, please visit www.newbritainsagarino.com.
