

Max M. Mayhew, 88, beloved husband to Frances (Ustilla) Mayhew, of Collinsville, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012. He was son to the late Elmer and Mabel (Wood) Mayhew and was born July 10, 1924 in Strong, Maine, living most of his childhood in Portland, before moving to CT. Max was a proud veteran of WWII having served in the US Army, 705th Engineer Petroleum Distribution Company in Italy and Africa. He later enjoyed his time as a teacher with the Southington School System for 30 years, retiring in 1985.
Some of his greatest joys in life included hiking, camping, snow shoeing and antiquing. He enjoyed a diverse variety of fine dining experiences, considering himself a fine wine Connoisseur who relished his fine Cuban Cigars, especially with family and/or friends.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children: son; Philip Mayhew and wife, Cheryl, of Andover, CT and daughters; Noreen Downey and husband Carl, of Pleasant Valley, CT and Charlene St. Sauveur of N. Carolina, his eleven grandchildren: Tawnya (Mayhew) Winne and her husband Mike, Michelle Mayhew, Joey Mayhew, of CT, Jenna Mayhew of N.C., Karla (Downey) Goulet and her husband Bryan, Sharon Downey of CT, Christopher Downey, of FL, Carol St. Sauveur, of MD, Alicia St. Sauveur of CT, Nicholas St. Sauveur and Sean St. Sauveur of NC, his two great grandchildren: Michaela Winne, William Winne and extended family.
A visitation time will begin Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 12-2 PM and will conclude with a Service of Remembrance at 2:00 PM at the New Britain Memorial Donald D.
