Blanca Rosa Veliz of Orlando, FL, 79 years old, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023. Blanca was born in Guatemala in a small village in El Jicaro - Las Ovejas. She came to New York in the mid 60’s with her Husband Idalberto Duarte and settled roots in the Bronx, NY and later in Brooklyn - East New York up into the mid 80’s. In the late 80’s they decided to move to Orlando, FL where she became a permanent Floridian.
She was born on October 24, 1943, to Leonor Marin and Secundino Veliz. She had minimal education but was self-taught in everything she set her heart on doing. Blanca retired from Disney Resorts as a Supervisor for Textile Services. She enjoyed cooking, gardening (and chopping down trees with a Machete) and working with power tools more than being in the kitchen. She loved her Spanish music especially Vincente Fernandez and her Cumbia music but most of all she LOVED to go fishing. She could do that every day if she had the opportunity, which when her husband was alive they did that almost every weekend in Cocoa Beach. So much so that every member in the family has either taken her or made a family trip just so that they can see her throw her fishing poles into the ocean and just wait and wait and wait for the lines to start tugging away.
She is survived by her 2 sons Carlos A. Duarte and Maurice Duarte; her daughter-in-law Daisha-Lee Duarte and beautiful grandkids, Mia-Rose Duarte and Milo-Idal Duarte. She is also survived by her sisters Herminia Onofre and Esperanza Gil, in addition to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Idalberto Duarte; her loving son Edgar Vargas and her Mother Leonor Marin. She will be missed by all who knew here specially her immediate family and close close friends.
Family will receive friends for a 1 day viewing from 12-4pm on Sunday May 21, 2023 with cremation services to follow at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY.
