Brian will be remembered by all that were fortunate enough to know him as a bright light of exuberance, laughter and joy. His passing leaves the world in a dimmer place that will undoubtably become brighter as the memory of his love of laughter, quick and intelligent wit and unlimited kindnesses are brought to mind. He leaves behind a glorious trail of passion and gratitude and love of life that will be his legacy and an inspiration for those who grieve to follow.
There was no greater passion of Brian’s than his Love and Devotion to his wife of 32 years, Annie (nee Martino) and his four children, Brian, Julia, Daniel and Lily. He was extremely proud of and grateful for them every day of his life. Providing a joyful childhood and secure future for his Family was the driving force in his life and having accomplished that it was a source of rewarding achievement for him.
Brian was born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 17, 1966 to Daniel F. and Maureen Keenan and grew up one of six siblings. He is survived by older Sisters Maura and Angela, elder Brother Patrick and younger Brother Michael and his Brothers and Sisters-in law. Brian was predeceased by his eldest Brother and hero Daniel in 1992. He loved all of them fiercely and relentlessly. Their stories of growing up together were one of Brian’s many joys and anyone fortunate enough to hear them would laugh until they cried.
Both graduates of St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY, with Brian majoring in “fun” and Annie in business, Brian went on to have an accomplished career in the Pharmaceutical industry at Pfizer, Inc. and Bristol Myers-Squibb. Brian navigated the vast corporate world with an intense and committed vigor to rise quickly and establish himself with a reputation for integrity, loyalty and sacrifice.
His success in business was overshadowed immensely by his eagerness to do for others and generously give his time, his sage advice and help of any kind to his many, many Friends and Family. There was no limit to his love. He cherished and was just as devoted to his Father and Mother-in-law, Vito and Lillian Martino, his sisters-in-law Dina and Vita and their husbands and a multitude of nieces and nephews each and every one of which he gave his time and thoughtfulness. He had just as much love for his plethora of cousins both near and as far away as Ireland.
He was an integral part of many Corporate Philanthropic endeavors such as Meals on Wheels, Joe Torre Safe at Home and Junior Achievement as well as fundraisers for the FDNY which he so admired. He coached in and ran the CYO Basketball program in his community for years.
He “Never said No” when anything was asked of him.
It is an understatement to say that Brian Keenan will be sorely missed but not to say that he will be forever remembered for his enormous heart, beautiful and endless laughter and Love of life.
