Eileen M. (Carroll-Graham) O’Donohue, age 89, was called home to God on September 21, 2021, reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Edmund; her parents James and Helen Carroll, and Zev Graham; and her siblings Jim Carroll, Bernie (Carroll) McTigue, and Robert Graham. Anyone who knew Eileen was captivated by her Irish eyes and felt the uplifting force of her strength and faith.
Eileen was born in the Bronx, NY and later attended Pratt Institute to further hone her talent in the arts, a passion she held through her years. She spent her early summers working with her extended family at the Bear Mountain Inn and she regaled everyone with stories of those cherished memories.
A resident of Rockland County for over 60 years, she married Edmund O’Donohue in 1953 and together they were blessed with five children whom they raised on Schriever Lane in New City. It was there she became a friend to all of her children's friends. She always found ways to give of herself and donated her time and talent to St. Augustine's Parish and Sisters of Charity to name a few.
A widow for over 50 years, Eileen had a resilient spirit. While raising her family, she returned to the workforce in 1972. Eileen was employed full-time for many years as a hotel banquet manager and continued to work as a clerk at Macy’s until she was 85 years old. Her strong will and tenacity were never more present than in her final days; her work ethic leaves a tremendous legacy.
Eileen was her happiest at 4pm on a beach with a crossword puzzle in hand. “Aunt Ei” had the sweetest tooth and loved to bake, especially when she hosted her annual Ladies’ Christmas Brunch. Eileen was fascinated by the sky and the stars, an avid bird watcher, a craft master, and tied the best ribbons and bows. She always remained most proud of her grandchildren, and her lipstick smile was seen on the sideline of many fields and rinks through the years. She will be missed dearly.
Eileen is survived by her siblings, Edwin Graham, John Graham, and Kathy Hawkins; adoring children Timothy (Robin Kalmanson) O’Donohue, Michael (Kim) O’Donohue, Patrick O’Donohue, Brian (Pam) O’Donohue, and Aileen (Kevin) Carroll; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many cousins, relatives, and friends all whom she held in deep affection.
The family will receive friends at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Friday, September 24th from 4:00-8:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 25th at St. Anthony's Shrine Church in Nanuet, NY at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society or Compassionate Care Hospice.
