
Elizabeth (Betty) Gessler Lindland (nee Noyes) of New City, NY, 97 years old, passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2023. Betty was a lifelong resident of Valley Cottage and New City, N.Y., except for living 10 years in Glen Burnie, MD as a young wife and mother. She was born on January 6, 1926, during a blizzard in NY City to Augusta and Eugene Noyes. She graduated from Congers High school and married her first husband, Robert Gessler, in 1950. After Robert’s passing in 1990, Betty married Harold Lindland, who survives her. She is also survived by her daughter Dale (husband John), her son Mark, her stepdaughter Cindy (husband Tom), and her stepson Peter.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Clare (husband Chris), Jeff, Charles, Matthew, Brandi, Rebecca and three great grandchildren, Jack, Ada and Julia.
She was predeceased by her 1st grandchild, Emily (age 17) in November of 2000. Betty was so loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Everyone she met expressed how sweet and witty she was! She was also known for her deep faith in Jesus.
Betty was always serving others. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Caring and Sharing, The Rockland County Historical Society, and at her beloved church- Clarkstown Reformed in West Nyack.
Over the years she served there as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, and loving her many pet dogs that were always a part of her life. In her later years, she and Harold provided a loving home for granddaughter Rebecca.
Family will receive visitors on Saturday, October 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Then, following visitation, a celebration service of Betty’s life will be held at Higgins at 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clarkstown Reformed Church, 107 Strawtown Rd., West Nyack, NY 10994, or Hi-Tor Animal Care Center, 65 Firemen’s Memorial Dr., Pomona, NY 10970 (see website for donation information: hitor.org)
