Elizabeth A. Gruffi

She was born at Mt. Eden General Hospital in The Bronx, NY on December 7, 1951 to William and Edna (Dall) Duschaneck . Elizabeth attended grammar school at Sacred Heart Parish in Highbridge and graduated in 1969 from Cardinal Spellman High School in The Bronx, NY. In the 1970’s she began her career as Secretary to the Vice President at J.P. Morgan Guaranty Bank in New York City, NY and went on with her husband Richard of 45 years to raise two children, Richie and Cathy. She was a proud member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in West Nyack, NY, serving as catechist in the Religious Education program for nearly 25 years.

We fondly remember her family members who have passed on before, her parents William and Edna and her brothers Richard Duschaneck of Thailand and William Duschaneck of Mahopac, NY.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard A Gruffi of New City, NY, son, Dr. Richard M. Gruffi of New City, NY and daughter, Dr. Catherine A. Gruffi of Tarrytown, NY. She is also survived by her brother, Mr. Stephen Duschaneck of Nanuet, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Karen and Dr. John Lynden of Southport, NC; sister-in-law, Ms. Trudy Duschaneck of White Plains, NY; sister-in-law, Mrs. Joan Duschaneck of Mahopac, NY and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

The Gruffi family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our family physician, Dr. John Fitzpatrick and the doctors and staff of New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City for the incredible care and compassion provided to Elizabeth and our family during her illness. She truly was one-of-a-kind and whether known to you as ‘Betty’, ‘ Betty Ann’, ‘The Boop’ or Mom, she will be forever loved and forever missed.

We will celebrate her life on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at MJ Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY with visiting hours from 4:00-8:00 PM and on Thursday, February 23, 2023 with the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY at 10:00 AM followed by internment at Germonds Presbyterian Cemetery, New City, NY
