Elsie Hroncich

Elsie Hroncich, 93, of New City, New York, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025. A witty, strong, and loving soul who always knew how to make us laugh. Born in Manhattan, Elsie began her career as a secretary at an accounting firm where she met the love of her life, Frank Hroncich. They married and shared 36 wonderful years together, first residing in Jackson Heights, Queens, before settling in New City in 1960.

Elsie dedicated herself to raising their four children as a devoted stay at home mother. She was a talented baker-famous for her cheesecake, cranberry bread, and sour cream cake. An accomplished knitter and seamstress who lovingly made sweaters and Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. A former girl scout leader, Elsie, had a generous spirit and a passion for nurturing others.

At age 45, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a nurse, demonstrating her resilience and dedication to helping others. She had a deep love of the arts, particularly opera, theatre, and especially the timeless voice of Frank Sinatra. Her favorite place in the world was New York City.

In her later years, Elsie enjoyed weekly Tuesday gatherings with the local senior citizens group and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Post 1682. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband Frank of 36 years. ​Elsie is survived by her children: Suzanne Luke (Joe), Joan Hroncich, Carolyn Donoghue (Daniel), John Hroncich (Kris); her cherished grandchildren: Matthew, Brian, Christine, Daniel Jr., Carly, Taylor, Ellison, Caroline, Luke, and great grandson Mason. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Mabel Rosetti, and her dear sister-

in-law, Sr. Joan Hroncich. Elsie’s strength, humor, and unwavering love will be remembered by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A wake will be held from 2-7 pm on Tuesday, August 5th at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home-New City with a Mass at St Augustine’s Catholic Church on Wednesday the 6th at 10am. Burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Flowers in her memory may be sent to Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home at 321 South Main Street New City, NY 10956.
