

Herbert F. Murray, 89, of New City, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Summit Park Hospital in Pomona, NY. Herbert was born July 8, 1925 in Jamaica, Queens to Thomas F. Murray and Betsey S. Murray (Hamilton). From 1943 to 1946 he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War. Upon his return he met Marie C. Kowalczyk and they were married August 31, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY. They moved to New City in 1958. He worked for New York Telephone Company for 39 years as a telephone repairman in Manhattan, Westchester and finally Rockland County. In retirement he traveled with family throughout Europe and enjoyed visiting friends and relatives in Florida. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Augustine Church in New City. Nothing was more important to him than his family. His wife predeceased him in 1973. He was also predeceased by his brother Thomas H. Murray and sister Margaret B. Koehler. He is survived by 3 children; Janet M. Murray of Greenwich Village, NY, Virginia A. Culclasure (Charles) of Riverview, FL and Thomas G. Murray (Theresa) of New City, NY. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Andrew Culclasure (Sarah) of Greenville, SC, Devin Culclasure of Atlanta, GA, Emily Culclasure of St. Petersburg, FL and Thomas Murray, Brendan Murray and Shannon Murray all of New City, NY. Additionally he is survived by 2 Great-Grandchildren; Darien and Adelaide Culclasure of Greenville, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Augustine’s Church, New City with burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
