James J. Costello

James J. (Jim) Costello of New City, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 13, 2017. He was born to the late Jack and Lily Costello in the Bronx, NY on September 6, 1934. In 1959, he married the love of his life Mary (McAlindon) Costello, who predeceased him in 2013. After serving in the United States Army, Jim graduated from NYU in 1967. He worked for New York Telephone for over 35 years. Mary and Jim raised their four children in New City, NY. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Kathleen Donohue of Tappan, NY; Jay Costello of Saratoga Springs, NY; Maureen Ricciardi and John of New City, NY; and Joseph Costello and Deirdre of Ridgewood, NJ. Jim is also survived by 14 loving grandchildren: Sean, Brendan, Liam, Seamus, Mary Cate, Jayne, Danny, Jack, Katie, Molly, Matt, Declan, Claire and Gavin. He is predeceased by his first grandchild, Caitlin Elizabeth in 1990. Jim is survived by his brothers Jack and Frank and is predeceased by his 2 other brothers Ed and Kevin. Jim embraced his Irish heritage and loved listening to Irish music. He enjoyed traveling with his loving wife and spending time with his family at his beach house on LBI. The family will be receiving friends and family on Sunday, July 16th from 2–4 & 7-9 at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 17th at 11:30 am, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Nyack, NY. Internment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, 36 West Nyack Rd., Nanuet, NY.
